“Today, he thinks. Tonight. You’ll push the tables together on the patio and pile up the chairs. You’ll sweep the terrazzo floor in front of the bar. You won’t know you haven’t got a chance."

short stories

Short and thrilling, occasionally bizarre or comical, sometimes plumbing dark depths – although as an author I prefer to write novels, I find short stories are a fascinating genre of literary writing. My short stories and short crime stories have been published by various presses since 2000, some of them in the illustrious company of authors like Val McDermid, Roald Dahl, Umberto Eco, David Sedaris and Kurt Tucholsky.

As an editor, I motivated 24 German crime writers to put a whole new twist on 24 well-known Christmas carols. The result, LEISE RIESELT DER SCHNEE ..., is an ideal Christmas present for fans of German crime writing. The anthology can be used as an advent calendar and makes an ideal Christmas present for fans of German crime writing. First published in 2003, the book has since sold over 50,000 copies.

The anthology FÜRCHTET EUCH NICHT was published in November 2009 – and is another crime advent calendar I edited. This time, 24 well-known crime writers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland have written jet-black stories revolving around yuletide items such as a Christmas tree, a reindeer, Saint Nicholas and a star.
